It’s time for my last update on the vegetarian diet experiment, which I had to interrupt a few days ago for reasons that I’m about to explain.
Five days ago, as some of you already know, the apartment’s kitchen where I was living in, went on fire for reasons that are yet unknown. The episode happened in the evening, and after that me and my girlfriend spent the night there anyway, we decided to come back to Italy the morning after. We’re all safe and the landlord had insurance to cover the incident, so we thought it was better for us to come back to our parents houses instead of searching for an expensive hotel in the city.
Anyway, one downside of returning home just in time for Christmas is that I had to attend lunch with families, which of course consisted of meat and pasta. Even the day after (yesterday) I was forced to eat what everyone else was eating, as every shop around here is closed for holidays.
For these reasons, I decided to terminate the vegetarian experiment on the 27th of December, 3 days before the intended date. I still have 27 days worth of experience, and that’s enough for me to draw my conclusions. Even better, after two days of eating pasta and meat I can compare the two different lifestyles and choose something that seems appropriate to my current situation and goals.
What’s next
This afternoon I’m going to visit some big food chain and see what kind of vegetables and fruit I can find here. Hopefully I’ll be able to find some good avocado and mangos, along with all the remaining fruit like bananas, pears and apples that I would easily find everywhere.
I’m definitely going to eat a mostly raw diet when possible, but I’m not going to make stories if I have to eat meat occasionally. I believe meat to be ok in moderation if it’s been raised naturally (which is very hard to find). I would be more worried about pasta and other processed stuff, not because they make you fat (I’m definitely not fat), but because they’re bad for our bodies.
During this experiment I also did some research on fruit, and while I’ve found a lot of people who are reporting very good results when going to a all fruit diet (as I’ve experience myself), I’ve also found others saying that it’s bad for the blood. To me, that’s 100% bullshit, I highly doubt that fruit can cause any problem, it’s more likely pasta and other artificial refined carbs that cause problems. I’m not an expert though, so this is just my personal opinion that may change in the future as I experiment more with this lifestyle change.
By the way, I’m going to start tracking calories intake again, with a goal of taking just above 2000 calories a day. I wouldn’t mind a couple of pounds more and I want to see what happens. Happy holidays!
