Freestyle Mind is Now Uncopyrighted

Just a quick post to inform all the readers of Freestyle Mind that this blog is now uncopyrighted, that is, its content is now available in the public domain.

You are now free to publish the content of this website wherever you want, with or without citing the source. This is a big step forward I’m taking with the intention of providing even more value to the world. I don’t care getting fame as long as the value is delivered.

I’m not the first one doing this, zen habits has already done it before, and this is something that makes sense for me to do as well.

Quality of blogging

Now that the content has been uncopyrighted, I’ll be even more motivated to produce high quality content, because I’ll know the content has the potential to be republished elsewhere.

Of course I’d appreciate a link back to the original article, but it’ll not be required.

I’ve done something similar (Creative Commons, I do require a link back though); it’s a little leap of faith and a challenge in letting go of control, but I think it’s totally worth it! I think copyright law is just unworkable.

For music it’s even more absurd. Musicians should start doing like bloggers do, putting the music free on their site and leveraging the traffic to earn by other means, or through donations. I am thinking of building some sort of system to help free music sharing become profitable for musicians, though I think it’ll be a few years before I think seriously about making it real.

It sounds like a good idea. I don’t believe in copyright either. I thought about CC but I’m sure many of those who will reutilize this content will put a link back.
