I’ve been trying to make a top healthy-foods list for a while now. The thing is that there are many healthy foods out there so it’s hard to pick up a single list. However, I’ve done my research and I think I come up with something useful.
The following is a list of what I consider the most healthy foods that are easily available to everyone. There may be other foods that are very healthy, but these are directly available to most people.
- Blueberries. Blueberries are one of the best source of antioxidants and help a lot with free radicals. Blueberries are also a good food for your brain and help with many other diseases.
- Salmon. Salmon is one of the preferred foods of the brain, and it also helps with hearth diseases. Regarding salmon sources, always prefer wild salmon if available.
- Broccoli. This vegetable is very rich of many nutrients and it’s also a very good source of fiber.
- Mixed nuts. Nuts are another tasty food for your brain. I usually eat a variety of nuts as each one has different proprieties.
- Spinach. I personally don’t like spinach a lot, but they’re definitely a healthy food as they contain many nutrients.
- Avocado. I don’t find many avocados where I live in Italy, but they’re a good source for potassium and are linked with preventing cancer.
- Olive oil. Olive oil is a great source of antioxidants and is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as is. The extra virgin olive oil is considered the best.
- Tomatoes. Tomatoes contain a large amount of vitamin C and vitamin A, among with other nutrients. Tomatoes have recently been linked with preventing lung cancer.
- Lentils. Lentils are very good for lowering cholesterol and help with many other hearth-related diseases.
- Watermelon. Watermelon are a good source of vitamin C. I usually eat them in summer as they are very refreshing.
- Fruit. Fruit is of course always a good choice. Five portions per day of fruit and vegetables are the recommended dose for being healthy.
You can eat whatever you want, but eating more of these during the day wont hurt. They’re also very delicious food that can be consumed in many ways (example).

Sweet!
I made a post like this a couple months back!
Have you seen the documentaries The Cove and Zoom Foods?
It’s shocking how toxic and poisoned our everyday food really is. Makes you only want to buy organic food or even start growing your own food!

I haven’t looked at that, but I’ll look for it. I’d say I’m fortunate that I grew up in a small city and we have a lot of organic. Once I’ll move to London I’ll have new challenges finding organic food I guess.

Ah I love healthy foods, Oscar. Did you write this post for me? Good list in general. As for me, I eat avocado and raw vegetables daily. I have read so many books on raw foods and romaine lettuce and avocado top the list. I also love olives but you do have olive oil. I have heard all about salmon’s outrageous claim to health and I don’t eat it nearly enough. Nuts are great so long as they are not heavily salted. Blueberries of course are delicious and full of antioxidants. I do not like broccoli at all but spinach is wonderful. Here is what I would add: Olives, Romaine Lettuce, Lemon (with water/tea), Chinese/Green Teas (although you may argue it’s a drink not a food) and Carrots and Beets and alfalfa sprouts and Cucumbers and Fresh Dill and Ginger, don’t forget Ginger. Oh Gosh I could go on. Someone stop me :)!

hey oscar,
thanks for this, this came in just in time. I just had a giant chocolate muffin and feel so guilty about it. have been trying to be healthier and lose a bit of weight by exercising (gained 2 kilos last month!) but it’s these munchies that ruin my plans :P
do you have a craving for sweet foods too? or any other foods? how do u curb it? i know not many guys have cravings for sweets like us girls!

Hey! I don’t think chocolate is that bad, so you’re safe on that point. I like sweet foods but for example I never put sugar on tea or coffee (when I used to drank coffee), so I only eat sweet food occasionally.

Lentils and Spinach have a lot of protein so If you are trying to gain muscle without gaining fat, eat lots of them :)
Good post bw.

All awesome foods which I eat on a consistent basis. I enjoy avocados. A great source of fat while being satiating.
Mixed nuts are great but I am a peanuts guy. I have a small helping of peanuts on a daily basis to keep my protein and good fat levels high.
I like the shot of the pom; they’re my fave super-fruit.

I once read a doctor on a magazine say that if he was stranded on a desert island the three foods he’d choose would be broccoli, walnuts and beer. Broccoli is big on the vitamins, walnuts have the nice fats and omega acids and beer tastes good.

One of my goals is to start eating (and drinking) healthier. This means eliminating coffee from my daily drinks, and eating out less (junk food). Good thing is I actually enjoy lots of the things you’ve referenced above…

Giving up coffee is not hard. I stopped drinking it one year ago and I actually felt better after it.

Hey Oscar! I enjoyed this post, do you know anything about, “detox”? Fasting, eating raw vegetables and all that good stuff that comes along with fasting? I guess I wanted to get your opinion before doing it, I’ve heard so much about it.
Maybe I should ask Farnoosh about it also. lol
Hope you’re doing well,
—Parker

Hi Parker, I’m probably not the best person to answer this, but anyway, I think fasting is useless as you’ll start eating again after the fast. A better approach would be to adopt a more healthy lifestyle in the first place.
