Are You Superstitous?

Today is Friday the 17th, so I decided to write this short post for superstitious people. In our culture -at least in mine- friday 17 is supposed to be a bad day for superstitious people. If you are one of them, you are probably doing everything by paying a special attention to see if something mysterious will happen. By doing that, I’m pretty sure you’ll find at least one thing during your day that went wrong because it was friday the 17th.

From a mental point of view, this makes perfect sense to me. Have you ever wondered how those voodoo dolls works? Basically the tradition say that if someone break an art of your doll, in a short period of time something will happen to your real art as well. But this only work when the victim know that something will happen to himself.

The law of attraction states that whatever you think of, that thing will happen to you. This is also true for bad things and that’s why you can’t for example stop smoking by telling yourself ‘I don’t smoke anymore’ a hundred of times per day (hint: you are repeating yourself what you don’t want instead of what you want).

So, today, try something different. Believe that something exceptional must happen to you. Make the law of attraction work in your favor. Do everything with this mentality and see the results for yourself.

Here in the U.S., Friday the 13th is considered the unlucky day (hence the movies by that name). But I think you’re right – the state of mind can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think that is also why people go into “slumps” where nothing works, and also go on “hot streaks” where everything goes right. The power of the mind is amazing.

Hey Evan! Yes the mind is amazing but fortunately we can make it work for us ;) Thanks for stopping by

Oscar, I don’t have a superstitious bone in my body. I don’t believe in any of that stuff. I consider it crap, except for the fact that worrying about something makes it happen because that’s the way the mind works. I gladly step on cracks and I would request the 13th floor of a hotel if they actually had them!

Hey Stephen, maybe the 13th floor is also the more relaxing because there are less people, who know :)

Interesting, I think it was in ‘The Secret’ where they state that the universe cannot hear a negative, and so many people try to change their bad beliefs by repeating what they dont want, but since the universe(or their brain) cannot process a negative, they are merely reinforcing their bad habit.

This is a mindset to change, but a good one to adopt:)

    Peace

Hey Diggy, you are totally right, the brain does not distinct negative from positive thinking. It also can’t distinct truth from imagination so it’s totally up to us to feed it with good informations.
