Over the last week I’ve been experimenting with working in a standing position after reading about it for a long time. I was already using a non standard chair but this change raises another level on my productivity.

The advantages of working while standing up are many. Here are just a few of them that I’m experiencing:
- Posture. Posture is definitely the number one improvement. You may have to tweak the height of your desk to get it right, but a standing position is definitely better that sitting for hours.
- Productivity. Working in a stand up position means that you’re more energetic and thus more productive. You’re constantly moving around, jumping from one leg to the other one, and you want to get your work done. It takes more discipline to maintain focus while sitting on a chair because your body is still and produces less energy.
- Breaks are real. If I want to take a break, I take a real one. Working in a standing position encourages to move around, stretch a bit, and be more aware of the environment. You also feel a bit more tired at the end of the day as you burn more calories.
Sounds interesting? It definitely is. Coming soon a post where I report how I maximize my productivity while using a stand up desk. Now I need to get back to working ;)
P.S. I got the desk from Ikea and adjusted the height to suit my needs.
