I’m currently training myself in the field of rationality. By rationality I mean two things: observing my beliefs and updating them based on new evidence, and achieving my values.

Just today I was thinking about the first part of that definition when I read an interesting article about setting expectations about our beliefs, in which the author suggests to always ask ourselves two questions regarding our beliefs:

  • What experience must happen because of my belief?
  • What experience must not happen because of my belief?

This model of thinking is important to unmask false beliefs. If you can’t predict which experiences must or must not happen because of your belief, then the lack of evidence suggest that you might as well drop it completely.

I’m finding the topic of rationality to be very interesting. If you’re interested in knowing more about it, I highly suggest that you start from the less wrong sequences, which contains very important material that should keep you busy for a while.
