Editor note: This is a guest post by Bamboo Forest about what happens when you want to achieve a goal. I’m a huge believer in change I’m sure you can get past all these things ;)

Do you have a goal you badly want to achieve?

I recommend sitting on the fence and not giving it your all. If you do give it your all, there are many prices you’ll have to pay.

Here are eight reasons you should seesaw back and forth in your efforts to achieve your goal.

1. It will be very challenging

Do you really want to channel your mind, body and spirit into your objective? That takes true commitment, and it’s so much easier to sit on the fence never deciding to give it your all. If you give 88% of yourself, you’ll feel much better.

Giving it your all, you’ll discover that you have inner strength you never knew existed that’s been sitting dormant within you. Don’t tap into that reservoir of potential; instead, enjoy the relaxation you’ll get sitting on the fence.

2. You’ll fail to live up to other people’s expectations

For a long while you’ve been living a certain way, and people have begun to expect nothing but what you’ve always been. Do you really want to disrupt people’s perceptions of you by giving it your all?

Getting motivated and taking sustained action is a surefire way you’ll make the above happen.

So just don’t.

3. Success is scary

Success is frightening! Currently, you have far fewer responsibilities and no one expects of you what they would if you started to become more successful.

Do you really want that kind of pressure?

Think of what Michael Jordan went through the night before every game.

Think about what Brian Clark of Copyblogger went through moments before publishing a post when Copyblogger started to take off.

In both examples above, because of tremendous hard work, these individuals created an atmosphere where everyone expected so much of them every time they performed.

Success? It’s not worth it.

4. People will hate you

Mediocrity is the safest haven for people liking you. The second you start to break out of your shell and climb the ladder of life, people will become resentful and jealous of your success more quickly than eating a platter of chimichangas will make you pass gas.

To maintain the way everyone feels about you, don’t reach any higher.

5. You’ll never be able to return to your former self

Once you do what you’re truly capable of and see what it does for your life, you’ll never again have the desire to return to your past identity.

Do you really want to abandon who you are now for what you could become?

6. Your self esteem will increase, but at the expense of making effort

When you’re not fully committed to an objective, you’re probably not going to succeed.

While failing to succeed may compromise your self-esteem, it also won’t demand nearly as much effort.

Effort sucks! It’s much easier to just accept what you don’t like about yourself and your life.

While I think generating self-esteem that will accompany you for the rest of your life is wonderful, it’s not worth the effort it requires.

7. New opportunities will arise

If you sustain full commitment long enough, undoubtedly new opportunities will arise.

Haven’t you ever heard the old saying, The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know?

New opportunities mean you’ll have to deal with life in ways you haven’t before.

Stay on the fence; you’ll be much better off.

8. Reaching your real potential is overrated

Making a true decision means committing to achieving a result, and then cutting yourself off from any other possibility. ~Anthony Robbins

True, you could turn your whole life around in an instant by making the decision to do so. But then you’d have to pay the price of everything we’ve covered in this post.

The price you’ll have to pay to reach your true potential is one most aren’t willing to pay. Most people never come anywhere near what they’re capable of, and sit back on their raft riding the currents of the river from when they were born to when they die.

Or, they make a great deal of effort but never truly commit and therefore fail over and over again.

Why would you want to be any different?
