This is the first update to my plan to make 10,000 euros per month blog post. It has passed nearly one month since, so I want to give an update to how things are going on my side.
The first business I started is about niche marketing with mini sites. Basically I create a website around one topic with many articles. People find those articles from search engines and I sold them a product after they benefit from a free mini course.
In this market the product must be something that really helps customers, in fact I always offer a 60 days money back guarantee in the case they are not satisfied. My goal anyway is to always provide useful information.
The second business I’m in is PPC marketing. In this business I buy traffic from Adsense to other people’s product. If they make a sale, I get a commission.
What I did in August
Niche mini sites: I created two websites and hired a guy to create articles for them. I’m still learning the process but my biggest goal right now is to drive traffic to them. For this purpose I try to do a lot of articles creation, especially to ezine directories.
When I’ll reach an average of 100 visits per day I’ll focus more on conversion and sales page.
My biggest mistake this month was to choose a niche that is currently seeing a big raise in competitions. I had 0 sales.
PPC Marketing: I did this for 5 days. I found a product that was converting well and I was making a 30% profit in the first 2 days. Then I made the error of choosing the wrong keywords for the wrong prices and I ran out of budget. I have spent like $350 and earned $300 but I have learnt a lot during the process.
Lessons learned
The first thing I learnt is that I need to put a lot more focus around the business and I need to plan in advance for activities to do. The second thing I learned is that it’s hard to get traffic from google, but it’ll eventually come, in fact I am in the first position for one keyword in just under a month, even if that keyword will probably drive only 100 visitors/month. The third thing I learnt is that you don’t get paid the same week you make the sales from affiliates, and with my PPC Marketing I had to stop because I needed to wait for my payments to arrive in order to invest more. I also learnt that it’s best to promote something that you really know and that you would personally recommend to your best friend to produce greater results.
Plans for September
In this month I would like to see an increase in traffic by inventing some marketing tactics and promotions. I also want to create 1 or 2 websites, each one promoting a product I know and like. If my checks from clickbank arrives, I’m also ready to continue with my PPC campaigns.

I hate PPC. I did PPC for a while and lost some 200 dollar. I’m fairly interested in mini sites however. how much did you pay for an article btw?
reply to this comment
I have a guy who writes articles for me (for niche topics). I pay him $300/month and he works full time. He’s not native english though and I have an editor right now (my girlfriend). I still have to make it profitable but I know that if it will, will be in the long term.

Interesting results, which network are you using for PPC? I haven’t started setting up mini-sites yet but I am thinking about doing a product review type site using Chitika ads.
I was originally going to do a similar thing as you, buying adwords and sending them through referal links, but I have no budget. I’ve racked up about 5$ in adsense so far though.

I used adwords and clickbank. I think I’ll create some landing pages to see if they convert better.

Hey O,
Thanks for the progress update.
PPC is not so easy, I did something recently with $100 and made $88 back.
Mostly also unprofitable campaigns, I’m going to give it a go again soon, but this time I want to set up my own site with optin for email, so that at least every click will give me an email address that i can follow up with autoresponder if they dont convert into a sale right away.
Keep working at it bro :)

I also want to test a tip I learnt to convert better visitors. Something about bonuses.

Way to go. I’m sure you’ll make it.

Thanks for the encouragement Adam! How’s going in Perugia?
reply to this comment
Things have been going well in Perugia. Have been trying to apply the 80/20 rule to improve my Italian, but fluency requires time. Next stop is in Rome and then maybe France and Spain.
Keep it up!

It’s great to see that someone is getting actual results from these types of activities. I’ve been thinking of getting into the niche marketing game for a while now but I’ve been holding off since I’m not certain it’s a good use of my time (I have WAY too many things on the go). Your tips are appreciated and I look forward to seeing how things progress for you. Keep at it!

Hey Dave, I’m still testing about niche sites but I think I’m starting to get some interesting result. I will post more updates every month and I’ll also say what works for me and what not.

oscar, i give you big credit for stating your goals on-line and then following up and giving your results on-line. shows a lot of discipline and, more importantly, commitment.
my guess is that anyone willing to go to this length, will, with time, be succesful! :)
reply to this comment
Hey Brian, I choose to give my results on-line because I think it will help to keep me motivated and hopefully (this is what I really looks for) will eventually motivate and make some good for someone else.

Oscar,
Thanks for being open and transparent about your experiences. It is great to learn from others like this.
reply to this comment
Hey Danny, welcome and thanks for taking the time to comment. Transparency is something I care about and I’m happy to see there’s interest.

It’s encouraging to see that you’ve followed through your plans. :)
“promote something that you really know” — this point is essential. That’s where you’ll have the edge over others in product knowledge.
I didn’t know 1 mth went by that quickly already! Haha. But have to say that its great to see you working towards your goals. See ya around Oscar!
reply to this comment
Hey Daniel, yes I’m realizing that now, in fact I’m spending my energies these days to make one site the best possible, even if it takes 2-3 weeks for the content creation, then it’s set for a long time. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Oscar,
Great job so far!
A little tip from my small experience: check out Google trends occasionally. If you find a hot trend that can be linked to a product, your PPC campaigns will be more effective because the people searching will have been “warmed up” by current events. I had a few very successful campaigns this way :)
Unfortunately they only do well as long as the topic is hot. Then it dies away and you have to find another, but it is still a great thrill, even if it is short-lived!
Best of luck!
Charles

Hi Oscar,
this is a challenging goal. I also have one – but for first step just $500 per month. Then I will see if it will work out and can duplicate my sites.
I also read Glens articles. But I am just trying to do it with affiliate SEO, no PPC. PPC is too risky if you’re unexperienced in online marketing, yet (my opinion).
Good luck, Mike
reply to this comment
Hi Mike, yes PPC is risky. It’s funny because I was experimenting with a product similar to the one you are promoting. Let me know how your progress goes.
reply to this comment
Honestly Oscar I do not expect too much coming out of this one since this market seems to be massively competitive. I just put another domain online to further push it. Hope traffic will show up next weeks :-)
And I look now for another niche – even if grav isn’t as high as with these green energy guides ;-)

Keep trying, eventually you’ll find something that works.
Thanks for sharing Oscar.
So many make PPC seem easy and profitable when in fact it can be quite the opposite. Thanks for sharing some “real” results with us. Please keep us posted on your ventures:)

Hi Michael, PPC it’s nothing easy but what’s worse is that 99% of the times it’s a very dynamic market, meaning that what’s making you money today may stop working tomorrow so it’s not really a passive income. It’s just like playing in the stock market.
